Ajay B. Bhardwaj – The Whisky Consultant
My whisky journey started in an unlikely place many years ago on a trip to Trinidad. While the rum was flowing at a friend’s family “lime”, one discreet man quietly enjoyed his beverage of choice on the balcony. He invited me to partake and my thoughts about Scotch whisky changed forever. With a desire to learn more, my thirst grew from tasting and appreciation to the history, craftsmanship and science of the spirit. Friends and colleagues would gather annually to taste and share knowledge around the malt (hence, the Single Malt Conference was born). I started receiving requests for whisky recommendations to reflect the characteristics of a person, their story or occasion (either celebratory or somber). Pilgrimaging in Scotland, I became a certified Whisky Ambassador, the first to receive this honour from Canada.
Today, my enthusiasm is channeled in spreading the message of the malt in either relaxed whisky appreciation events, sourcing single malt spirits and offering professionals in the service industry an accredited whisky education in Canada. I continue to learn so much, and as a student of the spirit, my journey continues...
